Keys handed to the owners of Wellington’s new venue

Nearly half a million people are expected to visit the centre in its first year of operation

Wellington City Council has received the keys to its new convention centre Takina.

The centre will officially open end of May, with the test events taking place earlier.

The new venue will allow Wellington to host larger international events for the first time. “This is something that Wellington’s business events sector and the city has realised it’s needed for a long time.,” said David Perks, general manager of Tākina Commercial Development.

The construction of the building was completed by the end of February and the centre will be ready for action once kitchen fit-outs and AV installation are completed.

Nearly half a million people are expected to visit the centre in its first year of operation.
