We interviewed Simon Thewlis of Event Pty Ltd and co-founder of Save Victorian Events, on the eve of his Keynote presentation at the Melbourne Event Organisers Summit, on his decision to appear before two government inquiries into the 2026 Commonwealth Games debacle.
The broader Senate inquiry covered the Federal consequences of the cancellation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games by the Victorian Government, and if the Games might be taken on elsewhere in Australia.
But it was the Victorian Parliamentary inquiry, which is ongoing and digs deeply into all aspects of the failed project, that attracted the most media attention with Thewlis’s comments taking up some of the headlines.
He was the only person to represent the event industry.
