Tourism Australia has broadened the scope of it’s Business Events Bid fund, which provides assistance to Australian destinations bidding for overseas events.
The $12 million dollar fund, which opened in May last year has successfully won 23 events—to a value of over $250 million.
Australia’s Minister for Trade Tourism and Development, Simon Birmingham announced changes to the fund’s eligibility criteria which will allow destinations to apply for smaller events.
Penny Lion, Executive General Manager Events at Tourism Australia said the changes are a result of feedback from the events industry.
“While it’s been exciting and rewarding to celebrate these wins with our industry partners, we’ve actively sought feedback on how to improve and are making some changes to the mandatory eligibility criteria and terms,” Ms Lion said.
