Fifty PCOs from around the country have in recent months been sampling why Tasmania is tailor-made for meetings and events.
Business Events Tasmania ran three curated famils in late 2024, showcasing every corner of the state and providing participants with first-hand knowledge of what it offers for meetings.
Tasmania on show
One group was treated to a truffle farm experience in the state’s north where they joined owner Anna Terry and her dogs Doug, Poppy and Billie in their search for truffles, with the experience concluding with a mouthwatering local lunch.
Another group travelled to the Freycinet Peninsula on the east coast where they waded out into Oyster Bay with local oyster farmer Declan to shuck their own oysters.
Other experiences included a visit to Launceston and Cataract Gorge and a special Welcome to Country smoking ceremony with Mel and Uncle Hank of Wukalina Walk.
Another group, visiting Hobart, capped their city tour with an interactive murder-mystery feast at Hadley’s Orient Hotel.
CEO of Business Events Tasmania, Marnie Craig, believes Tasmania’s ability to blend professional objectives with experiences can’t be replicated in other destinations.
“Our famils are not just promoting a location but inspiring a new vision for attendees and their upcoming business events,” she said.
“It’s fantastic to be able to immerse these industry leaders in the experience that is Tasmania rather than trying to convey it secondhand.
The beauty of Tasmania
“We’ve always found that once they’ve seen the island’s beauty with their own eyes and interacted with the wonderful people that make it so special, they know it’s the right destination to elevate their event to something truly exceptional.
“The ability in Tasmania to intertwine world-class dining and event spaces with our beautiful natural landscape creates the perfect alternative to busier destinations.
“We’re finding the market is starting to appreciate the change of pace found here, and delegates are appreciating the opportunity to attend events that offer easy access to unique experiences.”
Feedback from the famils has been extremely positive, with one participant saying they were “blown away by the beauty, history, and quality of venues available.”
In 2025 Business Events Tasmania will be undertaking more famil programmes. Visit www.businesseventstasmania.com.au for further information.
