On Saturday 4 Jan, the MCEC became a disaster relief centre, providing transition assistance to people evacuated from the Mallacoota community in East Gippsland.
The MCEC provided the evacuees with food, water, medical support and other important disaster relief services.
Peter King, Chief Executive, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre said he was appalled by the devastation of the fires raging across the country.
“We have all been shocked and saddened by the devastating bushfires that are affecting so much of our country. Like all Australians, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has a desire to help in any way possible,” Mr King said.
“We will continue to work with City of Melbourne, the Victorian Government and Victoria Police to provide as much assistance as we can during this time. Our thoughts go out to those who have been affected by these catastrophic events.”
