WA now the only Australian region to insist on Masks & ‘Papers please’

Over 77% of Western Australians aged 16 and over have had three vaccination doses

As the rest of Australia eases Covid restrictions to focus on recovery, Western Australia is now the only region in the country to maintain requirements for mask wearing and proof of vaccination (or ‘papers please’ as described by Alan Miller 20th December) to venues.

The reason given by the state’s government is that their chief health officer Andrew Robertson has advised that cases must fall further, despite an acknowledgment that COVID peaked in Western Australia in March.

There are no measurable targets to trigger lifting of restrictions either. “There is no specific figure. It’s more around a sustained decline in numbers.” Said Dr Robinson.

Over 77% of Western Australians aged 16 and over have had three vaccination doses.

Deputy Premier of Western Australia Roger Cook warned there would be no sudden easing of restrictions. “I think people should anticipate over the next weeks and months we’ll continue to see winding back of restrictions,” he said.

The Federal election takes place on the 22nd May.
