Adelaide has emerged as Australia’s fastest-growing international airport.
Over the past 18 months Adelaide Airport has welcomed the return of several international routes together with the introduction of new services to key markets across Asia, North America and New Zealand.
Among the additions have been direct flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong, while services to San Francisco have provided South Australia with a direct connection to North America for the first time in decades.
The return of direct Christchurch flights has also strengthened trans-Tasman connectivity, making it easier for New Zealand delegates and incentive groups to access South Australia without travelling through Sydney or Melbourne.
For the business events sector, improved air access remains one of the most important factors in destination selection.
Adelaide has been steadily building its business events credentials in recent years, supported by the Adelaide Convention Centre, major hotel investment and a growing calendar of international sporting and cultural events.
The city has also benefited from global exposure generated by events such as LIV Golf Adelaide and the Santos Tour Down Under, both of which have highlighted South Australia’s ability to host large-scale events.
Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox recently described the airport’s international expansion as a major milestone for the state, noting that additional air services create benefits across tourism, trade, education and investment.
Business Events Adelaide has similarly pointed to aviation growth as a critical factor in securing future conferences and incentive programmes.
With additional routes expected in coming years, Adelaide is increasingly positioning itself as an alternative gateway for international meetings and corporate events in Australia.
