A major hotel development proposed for Brisbane’s CBD is set to significantly expand accommodation capacity ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games, with plans lodged for a 50-plus storey tower above the heritage-listed Victory Hotel on Edward Street.
The project is being led by Precision Group, with founder and chief executive Shaun Bonett confirming the development is intended to respond to growing demand for centrally located accommodation.
The proposal will deliver approximately 280 hotel rooms, alongside hospitality, wellness and event facilities, creating a vertically integrated hotel and entertainment offering within Brisbane’s core business district.
The design incorporates a “reverse podium” approach, with the tower elevated above the existing Victory Hotel to preserve the historic pub’s street presence while introducing a new large-scale hospitality asset above it.
Speaking about the project, Bonett said there is a “growing need for new accommodation offerings” in central Brisbane, particularly as the city prepares for increased visitor demand linked to major events.
He added that the proposal represents “a natural evolution of the Victory’s refurbishment”, reflecting both the site’s heritage significance and its future role within a rapidly developing CBD precinct.
The development is expected to include rooftop dining venues, a pool deck, wellness facilities and function spaces, positioning it as more than a traditional hotel and aligning with broader trends towards mixed-use hospitality assets.
The site’s location—on the corner of Edward and Charlotte Streets—places it within close proximity to Brisbane’s major commercial offices, as well as key infrastructure projects including Cross River Rail and the Queen’s Wharf development.
Industry observers note that projects of this scale are becoming more common as Brisbane strengthens its position as a business events destination in the lead-up to 2032.
Subject to planning approval, the project will deliver a significant new hotel and event venue in Brisbane’s CBD
