Brisbane has secured LNG2029, the world’s largest conference and exhibition dedicated to the liquefied natural gas industry, in a major international conference win for Queensland.
The event will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from 17th to 20th April 2029 and is expected to attract more than 4,200 delegates from over 80 countries.
According to organisers, the conference is forecast to contribute up to $19 million to the Queensland economy while generating more than 16,800 visitor nights, delivering business for hotels, restaurants, transport providers and other tourism operators across Brisbane.
LNG2029 is staged every three years and is regarded as the premier international gathering for the global LNG industry, bringing together energy executives, government representatives, researchers and technology providers.
The successful Australian bid was led by the Australian Gas Industry Trust (AGIT) and Australian Energy Producers, supported by Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency and Tourism Australia.
Queensland Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell said the conference would deliver significant economic benefits for the state.
“LNG2029 is set to deliver huge benefits for our state, injecting up to $19 million into our economy and generating more than 16,800 visitor nights,” he said.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the win reinforced the city’s reputation as a centre for energy and innovation.
“Hosting LNG2029 is a great recognition of the expertise we have here in Brisbane and the important role our city is playing in shaping the future of energy.”
Tourism Australia Managing Director Robin Mack said securing the event demonstrated the value of the organisation’s Bid Fund Program.
“Through our Bid Fund Program, Tourism Australia is proud to support Brisbane’s latest international event win.”
Brisbane’s selection follows the presentation of the city to the international LNG community during LNG2026 in Doha earlier this year. Organisers cited Brisbane’s proximity to Asia, world-class convention facilities and growing international profile ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games as factors that strengthened the city’s bid.
