Geelong’s new convention facility is already demonstrating strong market demand, with more than 50 events secured ahead of its official opening in July 2026.
The Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, a $450 million waterfront development, has locked in bookings through to 2028, including major industry events such as the Australian Tourism Awards.
The forward pipeline is expected to bring more than 22,000 delegates to the region and generate an estimated $13 million in economic impact, driven by accommodation, dining and visitor spend.
Located on Geelong’s waterfront, the purpose-built facility will feature 3,700 square metres of flexible event space, a 1,000-seat theatre, exhibition halls and meeting rooms designed to accommodate conferences, exhibitions and gala events.
A key component of the precinct is the adjoining 200-room Crowne Plaza hotel, providing integrated accommodation for delegates and supporting multi-day events.
The development forms part of the broader Geelong City Deal, a multi-level government investment aimed at strengthening the region’s visitor economy and positioning Geelong as a leading business events destination outside Melbourne.
Notably, the centre has been designed in collaboration with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, making it the first convention centre in Australia co-designed with Indigenous stakeholders from inception.
With a strong pipeline already secured, Nyaal Banyul is expected to play a central role in Victoria’s business events strategy, attracting national and international conferences while delivering sustained economic benefits to the broader region.
