MCEC unveils `With Purpose’ 2025 menu

The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre has unveiled its menu for 2025 with a focus on eco-friendly packages and sustainably made produce.

Executive chef Peter Haycroft says the new menu demonstrates the MCEC’s creativity and expertise combined with a focus on sustainability and inspired by Melbourne’s iconic food scene.

More than 80 per cent of the produce included in the new menu is sourced from the finest growers across Melbourne and Victoria and also extends to beverage packages that feature locally sourced wines, craft beers and specialty cocktails and mocktails.

The MCEC has even curated a non-alcoholic offering, partnering with local Geelong brand Curious Cabinet, and continues its collaboration with Four Pillars Gin.

Furthering its commitment to sustainability, the MCEC has launched ‘With Purpose’ packages across the entire menu range, with each course specifically designed to complement the next.

‘With Purpose’ packages showcase suppliers who share the MCEC’s commitment to sustainability, with selections chosen that reduce waste, minimise food packaging and support ethical food production.

As in previous years, all surplus produce is donated to the MCEC’s community partner OzHarvest. In 2024 more than 3000kg of food was rescued, equating to 6746 meals for those in need.

‘With Purpose’ packages are offered at a lower price, enabling event organisers to reduce their overall event spend while also minimising their environmental impact.

MCEC executive sous chef of culinary development, Karl Edmonds, said the MCEC’s new ‘With Purpose’ packages not only provide delicious options for guests but also align with the venue’s commitments to environmental responsibility.

“By choosing these packages, event organisers can make a positive impact without compromising on quality or taste,” he said.

Dietary requirements are once again considered throughout the new menu. ‘Something For Everyone’ is an entirely vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free range.

Another highlight is the new ‘Flavours of Country’ gala dinner menu – a three-course set meal celebrating Australia, with a vibrant blend of local produce and native ingredients.
