
The newly formed Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) has announced its board of directors and logo ahead of its official launch date of 3rd July.
Peter King who is the former CEO of Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre has already been announced as the Chair and Matt Pearce who is CEO of Talk2 Media will be Deputy Chair.
The other current board members are Janet Hamilton General Manager of Cairns Convention Centre, Nigel Keen General Manager of Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC, Michael Matthews CEO of Canberra Convention Bureau, Julia Swanson CEO of Melbourne Convention Bureau and Nicole Walker Managing Direct of event management company Arinex.
The board is made up of leaders from across the business events industry and reflects the association’s aim to represent and support businesses of all sizes.
ABEA chair, Peter King said “We have assembled an exceptional calibre of committed directors who are renowned leaders in their own right. They live, breathe and lead business events and bring a new energy to the table and understand what the potential is for our sector,”.
“Together we will drive the policy, advocacy and research agenda, as well as effective members services.” He said.
Deputy Chair Matt Pearce outlined the opportunity for the association to advocate the value of the Australian business events sector. “With the drive of an all-encompassing entity like the Australian Business Events Association to highlight and promote the sector, we have the opportunity to represent our expertise, talent and technical innovations to a national and international audience.” He said.
The ABEA will appoint another 4 directors and is looking to recruit its CEO.
