The 303-room Horizon by SkyCity opened in Auckland last week, bringing a new level of five-star comfort and style to the New Zealand hotel landscape.
The hotel has a distinctive business flavour and will have direct access to the New Zealand International Convention Centre when it opens in 2025.
Designed by Moller Architects, Horizon by SkyCity has several architectural features including a curved glass façade and provides multiple access points including a pedestrian laneway, street-level access, and air bridges connecting the hotel to the SkyCity Auckland precinct.
The hotel features New Zealand’s first underground porte cochère, locally commissioned art and sculptures, and intricate materials used throughout the rooms and public areas to reflect the natural landscape of New Zealand.
Adding to the local dining scene, the opening of Horizon sees the return of SkyCity’s The Grill, with a menu that is described as celebrating the best of New Zealand meat and seafood.
Lead by executive chef Touvai Poloniati, The Grill tells the stories of New Zealand producers, fishermen and farming families, in a refined modern setting.
Also launching within the property is the signature Onyx bar, located in the lobby at the base of a 12-story high art installation of Pōhutukawa leaves called `Transcendence’. A bespoke cocktail menu has been meticulously crafted to reflect the essence of New Zealand.
Horizon is SkyCity’s third hotel property in Auckland. Combined with the SkyCity Hotel and The Grand by SkyCity, SkyCity is one of New Zealand and Australia’s largest tourism, hospitality, and entertainment groups with four casino properties, 22 restaurants and bars, and four hotels.
Included in the 303 rooms at Horizon are 10 stunning suites with bathtubs centrally located to provide views across Auckland and beyond.
Newly-appointed SkyCity CEO, Jason Walbridge, said Horizon by SkyCity’s opening heralds the beginning of a significant period for SkyCity, including the lead-up to the opening of the New Zealand International Convention Centre.
“These new businesses will add a further 600 jobs to our workforce of 4500 staff across all our sites.” says new Chief Executive Officer, Jason Walbridge.
