PM announces $240 million funding for new Hobart stadium

“This [revitalisation project] sets up Macquarie Point as the future jewel in the crown for Hobart. A place where people can live, work and come together.” Said Mr Albanese

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced $240 million funding for a new Hobart stadium as part of a commitment to the urban renewal of Macquarie Point. The new stadium is expected to cost $715 million.

The project has received criticism. Tasmanian independent federal MP Andrew Wilkie described the commitment of state funds as “simply unfathomable” in the face of other issues faced by the state, such as housing affordability, health, education and transport problems. Protesters were vocal at the press conference announcement.
