Pullman Brisbane Airport leads region in Skytrax awards as Accor dominates rankings

The continued success of Pullman Brisbane Airport reflects a broader shift in how airport hotels are perceived

Accor has reinforced its leadership in airport hospitality across Australia and the Pacific, with Pullman Brisbane Airport once again named the Best Airport Hotel in Australia/Pacific at the latest Skytrax World Airport Awards.

The result marks the hotel’s fifth win in six years, underlining its consistent performance in a highly competitive category and further cementing its position as a benchmark property for airport-based accommodation in the region.

Owned by Brisbane-based partners Scott and Anthony Flynn, the hotel has also previously ranked among the world’s top 10 airport hotels, highlighting its standing beyond the local market.

Pullman Brisbane Airport’s continued success reflects a broader shift in how airport hotels are positioned and perceived. No longer purely functional, these properties are increasingly expected to deliver a premium experience that caters to both business and leisure travellers.

The hotel’s location within the Brisbane Airport precinct, combined with its purpose-built design, has allowed it to deliver on this expectation. A focus on seamless guest experience, contemporary design and high-quality amenities has helped differentiate the property in a crowded market.

Speaking following the announcement, Brisbane Airport Hotels Group CEO Alex Penklis said the award recognised the team’s long-term vision for the property.

He noted that the goal from the outset had been to redefine the airport hotel experience, combining comfort and design with operational efficiency to meet the needs of modern travellers.

The Skytrax results also highlighted Accor’s broader dominance in the airport hotel segment, with the group securing five of the top six positions in the Australia/Pacific rankings.

In addition to Pullman Brisbane Airport taking top honours, Te Arikinui Pullman Auckland Airport ranked third, followed by Novotel Sydney Airport in fourth, Novotel Christchurch Airport in fifth and Pullman Sydney Airport in sixth.

The strong showing reflects Accor’s continued investment in airport precincts, which are increasingly evolving into integrated destinations rather than purely transit locations.

Over the past two years, the group has expanded its airport hotel portfolio in the Pacific by more than 20%, now operating 23 properties across the region.

Recent developments include the opening of the dual-branded Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport, a 464-room project that has introduced new accommodation, wellness and co-working facilities into the precinct.

Looking ahead, Accor is set to further strengthen its presence with the planned opening of Pullman Perth Airport in 2027, marking the first hotel to be developed within the Perth Airport estate.

For event organisers and executive assistants, the continued evolution of airport precincts presents new opportunities, with these locations increasingly offering the infrastructure and amenity required to support meetings, short stays and transit-based events.
