The Cairns Convention Centre is celebrating its 30th anniversary after generating an estimated $1.67 billion for the Far North Queensland economy since opening in 1996.
New figures released by the venue show it has hosted more than 2,500 events and welcomed over three million delegates during its three decades of operation, helping establish Cairns as one of Australia’s leading regional conference destinations.
The centre underwent a $176 million expansion in 2023, significantly increasing exhibition and meeting capacity while adding new event spaces and delegate facilities.
General Manager Jan Siex said the venue continues to play a major role in supporting the regional visitor economy by attracting conferences that deliver year-round business for accommodation providers, restaurants, transport operators and tourism experiences.
Bookings now extend through to 2032, reflecting continued confidence in Cairns as a destination for national and international conferences.
The venue has also built a strong reputation for sustainability and has received numerous industry awards recognising excellence in operations and environmental management.
